As of writing, our performance at the Lafayette Anticipations is just under a week away. Naturally, the pace of rehearsals has increased tenfold as the reality of it all sets in.
In this flurry of practice, I’ve noticed that our work together has reached its most natural and coherent flow to date – where before our two different practices took time to merge, a shared language has appeared between us , a style of communication that is understood by us both.
Within this last minute, flowing work – a sudden burst of inspiration struck.
Violet began to immediately revise her choreography, and I, similarly inspired, began working on some material that would reflect this newfound surge in passion. ‘
I constructed the following, a looping arrangement that cohesively blends with our well established sonic palette. In turn, this only spurred Violet on – furthering her movements:
In preparation for my upcoming submission for the module, the video Violet recorded as our most recent and complete version of the performance has had issues with uploading to me. In its place, I have provided a live excerpt of the full 30 minute performance, in audio format.
The audio begins with the looped sounds of skipping, repeating mistakes and errors like haunting spectres. The relentless flood of thudding then dissolves into a hurried pool of sound – from which emerges Violet’s scraping movements and my own sound design.
